A majority of Americans feel financial regret as personal debt soars to new highs, a recent survey said. Roughly 78% said they had a financial regret, with 21% saying they most lamented “charging up too much credit card debt,” according to the Debt.com survey. Millennials regret their credit debt the most, and 45% said they feel guilty about “charging too much on their credit cards.” Baby boomers were the least concerned, with only 10% feeling regret over credit card debt despite having the most of it. Nearly 24% of baby boomers have $30,000 to $50,000 in credit card debt. Moreover, 49% of…
Owning a home is an expensive challenge for Gen Zers and millennials. Renting remains the more affordable option, but in some cases, renting can be just as expensive. On average, Gen Zers spend 30% of their income on a mortgage if they bought a home between the ages of 22 to 29, a RentCafe study found. Millennials spent even more on homeownership before the age of 30, at 36% of their income.Renting, on the other hand, is slightly cheaper for both Gen Z and millennials as both generations spend about 27% of their income on rent. Kids love dinosaurs. These larger-than-life, amazing creatures that existed some 66 million years ago continue to fascinate both children and adults. Just think about how dinosaurs are still prevalent in modern popular culture – the blockbuster Jurassic Park franchise, Toy Story’s sweet Rex, and beloved Barney. Not to mention the myriad dinosaur exhibits that remain highly popular attractions at science and natural history museums around the world. Sometimes, we hear defined benefit (DB) pensions compared to dinosaurs. Like dinosaurs, pension plans are fascinating, large, and strong. They are a reliable source of retirement income and remain extremely popular among workers…
A federal appeals court, including two Donald Trump appointees, ruled Tuesday that the Democratic-lean of Washington, DC’s, population does not make its jury pool too biased to try a January 6 Capitol rioter case. Thomas Webster, a former New York Police Department officer who was found guilty in 2022 of assaulting a police officer during the riot, had challenged his conviction on that and other grounds. His legal arguments echoed public comments about the partisan bent of DC from Trump and his allies about the criminal case the former president faces in the nation’s capital for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.…
Donald Trump should not be convicted on the word of “the greatest liar of all time,” the former president’s defence told a New York jury, in an attempt to discredit the prosecution’s star witness during closing statements at the first criminal trial against a former president. The days-long testimony of Michael Cohen, a former Trump acolyte who has become the presumptive Republican nominee’s sworn enemy, is crucial to establishing the prosecution’s case that Trump directed surreptitious payments to buy the silence of a porn actor who alleged an extramarital affair in the lead-up to the 2016 election.Todd Blanche, a lawyer for…
Investment thesis: Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) reported 1Q24 earnings earlier this month. I’m initiating the stock with a buy rating based on two factors I see playing out simultaneously: 1. Consistent debt reduction, and 2. Improving profitability in Warner Bros Discovery’s Direct-To-Consumer or DTC segment is an impressive milestone, considering others in the streaming peer group, e.g., Disney (DIS) and Paramount (PARA), struggle to achieve that. I attribute the former to management’s disciplined execution on debt since the merger in 2022 and the latter to the booming Max business. The company reported revenue of $9.9 billion for the quarter, a…

Harvard University announced Tuesday it will no longer weigh in on public matters that don’t impact the Ivy League school’s core function, a shift that follows a historic period of turmoil at the storied university. Harvard leaders announced the new policy after forming a working group in April to debate when the university should speak out. That group concluded that Harvard has a “responsibility to speak out to protect and promote its core function,” including to “defend the university’s autonomy and academic freedom when threatened.” “The university and its leaders should not, however, issue official statements about public matters that do not directly…
