(Bloomberg) — The costs of many US household necessities retreated in March from a month earlier in welcome news for families that have been strapped by an extended period of rapid inflation. Key measures of housing costs registered their smallest monthly advances in about a year, while prices of groceries dropped for the first time since 2020 and household energy slid by the most in almost nine years, according to government data out Wednesday. That, along with a drop in gasoline prices, contributed to a smaller-than-expected 0.1% monthly increase in the consumer price index. “A reprieve in price growth for…

The Department of Energy approved Alaska Gasline Development Corp’s (AGDC) project to export gas to countries with which the United States does not have a free trade agreement. Backers of the roughly $39 billion project expect it to be operational by 2030 if it gets all the required permits. The LNG would be exported mainly to countries in Asia. The Alaska…

The July 2022 report said only that India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous…

When BlackRock reports first-quarter earnings early Friday, expect to hear less emphasis on…
The stock market might feel like it is range bound, but it has risen recently. Even a small gain can raise the chances of squeezes that can punish short sellers. Betting on stock declines by borrowing shares and selling them, hoping to buy them back at a lower price, can yield big gains. But it carries some unique risks, including the danger that prices can rise unexpectedly—and substantially—as short sellers buy to close their bets. Such gains can force other short sellers to do the same, sending prices spiraling higher, as losses become too painful to bear. S3 Partners, which…
