Donald Trump has sued Michael Cohen, his ex-lawyer and a crucial witness in the “hush money” case brought against the former president by Manhattan prosecutors, seeking at least $500mn for alleged breaches of contract and confidentiality agreements. The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Florida just a few weeks after Cohen repeatedly testified before a grand jury in New York about the $130,000 he paid to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels in the days before the 2016 election. Daniels, who also testified before the Manhattan grand jury, had claimed she had an affair with Trump, which…
About a year ago, I concluded I would run for the cashier in the case of shares of Albertsons Companies, Inc. (NYSE:ACI). The grocery chain had prolonged the pandemic boom of 2020 into 2021, allowing it to revamp stores and deleverage the balance sheet. With comparables getting more difficult and inflationary pressures building, I was very cautious, with shares trading in the mid-thirties about a year ago. A Recap The pandemic provided private equity firm Cerberus, the owners of Albertsons since the late 2010s, with a perfect window of opportunity to go public in the summer of 2020. The pandemic…

The FBI is warning consumers against using public phone charging stations in order to avoid exposing their devices to malicious software. Public USB stations like the kind found at malls and airports are being used by bad actors to spread malware and monitoring software, according to a tweet last week from the FBI’s Denver branch. The agency did not provide any specific examples. “Carry your own charger and USB cord and use an electrical outlet instead,” the agency advised in the tweet. While public charging stations are attractive to many when devices are running critically low on battery, security experts…

Inflation moderated again in March thanks to a decline in energy costs, but other prices soared higher last month, continuing to squeeze Americans’ pocketbooks. Prices climbed 5% on an annual basis, down sharply from February’s 6% increase and the smallest rise in nearly two years.Other parts of the report pointed to a slower retreat for inflation, a worrisome sign for the Federal…
This is a case that really happened as I report it. A 93 year old grandma played all kinds of sweepstakes and got mailings from them regularly. She loved the excitement of entering contests. She got a letter from one of them, informing her that she had won a huge cash prize. Shortly after, she got a phone call congratulating her on her win. She was so excited. She called her son and reported that she was going to get a million dollars! All she had to do was go to the bank with the lawyer for the sweepstakes company…
