Every modern commercial real estate transaction, or other business transaction, takes place largely through email. If it’s a major or complicated transaction, it will involve dozens of email recipients and senders – business people, lawyers, brokers, title companies, other service providers, and so on. Each email will beget a stream of additional emails as each recipient replies, adds a little something to the discussion, and then sends their response to everyone. The bloated disclosures and caveats automatically added to the end of each new email response don’t help. It all becomes overwhelming. As one reaction to these massive email strings,…
These days, many seem to be critical of what they perceive as excess wealth. As I discussed in “More Self-Control Leads to Wiser Spending, Not Less Spending,” there is value in being careful with your purchases, even when you have enough in savings you could afford to be foolish. All our life is an adventure lived one day at a time. We can’t anticipate everything ahead of time, but excess savings is one way to plan for an unknown future. In our family, when we experience a financial shock, we often say to one another, “I’m happy that this is…
Whether expected or not, the upheaval of job loss gives you much to think about. Don’t forget any stock options or restricted stock units (RSUs) that you were granted and are still available to you. Too many departing employees forfeit valuable potential gains from their equity awards because they were unaware of the post-termination rules, or even the vesting dates, of their grants. The danger is real. Sudden layoffs have recently erupted at many companies, including corporate tech giants such as Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft. You want to be sure you take as much extra compensation for the road…
There is no denying that the Biden Administration is pro working families. Take the Infrastructure Act which focuses on onshoring — bringing and keeping jobs in the United States. Take another look at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which is taking a pro-worker leap by exposing non-compete clauses — clauses which prevent millions of workers from taking a job with higher pay from a similar employer to the one they have now. Corporations use other sources of power to underpay and disempower workers, so the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FTC are consulting with worker representatives on the effect…
Many investors and some traders may remember the stock market performance in the last quarter of 2018. Before the 1st quarter of 2020 “the last quarter of 2018 ranks as the 11th worst quarterly performance for global stocks over the last 48 years”. On December 10th, 2018, the bullish % according to the American Association of Individual Investors dropped to 20.9% which was the lowest reading since February 2016. Some analysts were looking for a recession in 2019 as the Dow Industrials December 2018 decline of 8.7% was the worst since 1931. The stock market in 2018 rallied after Christmas…
The DividendRank formula at Dividend Channel ranks a coverage universe of thousands of dividend stocks, according to a proprietary formula designed to identify those stocks that combine two important characteristics — strong fundamentals and a valuation that looks inexpensive. Western Union presently has an above average rank, in the top 50% of the coverage universe, which suggests it is among the top most “interesting” ideas that merit further research by investors. Start slideshow: 10 Oversold Dividend Stocks » But making Western Union an even more interesting and timely stock to look at, is the fact that in trading on Tuesday,…
SAO PAULO (Reuters) -Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Thursday hinted that the government might change inflation targets, calling high lending costs “inexplicable” as he continued his push for lower interest rates. “If the inflation target is wrong, change the target,” the leftist leader said a meeting with journalists broadcast by TV channel GloboNews. The target is set by the National Monetary Council, comprising central bank Governor Roberto Campos Neto and the ministers of finance and planning. However, Lula said he was not looking to pick a fight with the appointee of former President Jair Bolsonaro whom he…
By Saqib Iqbal Ahmed NEW YORK (Reuters) -The U.S. dollar fell to a 1-week low against the euro on Thursday as German inflation data helped lift the common currency and as concerns over the banking sector receded. Inflation eased significantly in Germany in March on the back of lower energy prices but was above forecasts, adding pressure on the European Central Bank to further tighten its monetary policy. Separately, data showed that Spain’s consumer prices rose 3.3% year-on-year in March, the slowest pace since the 12-month period through August 2021 and less than expected by analysts. The European Central Bank,…
By Jarrett Renshaw (Reuters) – The Biden administration on Tuesday released final guidance on how clean energy companies can secure additional tax credits when investing in U.S. communities economically tied to fossil fuels like oil and coal. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed last year by Democrats extended a 30% tax credit for wind, solar and other green energy projects, but also provided an extra 10% boost to those investing in so-called “energy communities.” The boosted tax credit is central to the administration’s goal of ensuring areas long dependent on fossil fuels benefit from clean energy. It also helped secure…
